Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
John 4:2424 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
“God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!”
How many times have we heard that little, er, gem from some of our Christian brothers and sisters?!
Well, firstly, may I say God did create Adam and he created Steve also. *smile* They may say that's not the point, but it is exactly the point! We are all created by God.
Secondly, since God created us "both male AND female" and we are created in God’s image, that pretty much means God is neither male nor female, or both. Yes, the Bible mostly addresses God as Father/male but God is so much more than that.
So, if God is neither male nor female, then what is He/it then? Oh that's right, God is Spirit! Usually Spirit isn't even associated with sexuality. Who we are at our deepest core, a spirit God created to live in a body, also isn't associated with a sexuality!
So tell me again, why would we be an abomination to the God who created us, in His image, as spiritual beings first and foremost?
